Trash Free Trails (TFT) is a community-focussed, non-profit organisation; a positive, inclusive call to arms for riders, runners and roamers alike. TFT exists to protect our trails and the wild places they take us, and they are starting with litter (aka – Plastic Pollution!).
As riders, runners and roamers, we venture further, and more frequently, into our wild places than many, and we can no longer ignore what we are seeing in every city park or mountain summit that we explore. Like our oceans and streets, our trails and wild places are becoming choked by plastic pollution. Plastic pollution – such as drinks bottles, gel sachets, food wrappers, cigarette butts and dog poo bags – has become the most obvious environmental issue for anyone who spends time in wild places. Through an interconnected series of empowering and impactful community-led initiatives, this project will activate a volunteer army of riders, runners, and roamers of all ages, who are ready and able to donate their time, passion and talent to the protection and promotion of their wild places. With a goal of engaging 4000 people at 100 events, this project aims to remove and record plastic pollution along 1000km of trails, through ‘Do it Ourselves’ volunteers and via events, including the Autumn Litter Watch 2020, The Rubbish Road Trip & Trail Clean Expedition to Kendal Mountain Festival (KMF), and the Tour de Trash in Spring 2021. The project will also carry out a series of community documentaries to be shown at KMF in 2021 and 2022, and also produce a ‘State of Our Trails’ (SoOT) report.
