The Project
With higher numbers of wolves, lynx and bears in Slovakia since the second half of the 20th Century, conflicts with local people have become more common. They are accused of causing losses to livestock, game stocks and also other threatened species. Very little research has been carried out on the place of carnivores in ecosystems to inform conservation. This project would carry out this research by-producing educational material about the carnivores for locals and visitors, to ensure that people have a better understanding of the carnivores and the actual threat that they pose
-3 local people will take part in the Biosphere Expeditions scholarship programme, carrying out research in the Veika Fatra National Park, and communicating their findings.
-purchase 20 cameras to study the carnivores in their habitat.
