Release date: 20 April 2022

On the occasion of Earth Day 2022, the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) is holding an online fundraiser, while at the same time, calling on outdoor enthusiasts to look after their local environments. Thanks to the generosity of EOCA members, the association is giving outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to ‘Make a Difference’ when choosing to buy outdoor gear this spring.

Earth Day has been celebrated annually on 22 April since 1970, to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The theme for this year's Earth Day is 'Invest in Our Planet'. Through EOCA, participating companies and outdoor enthusiasts purchasing gear they need for their next adventure can do just that. Money raised will enable EOCA to support and invest in a range of conservation projects around the world. EOCA’s current projects focus on addressing the loss of biodiversity in important habitats around the world.

EOCA members have once again shown their support for the association and for conservation. A number of EOCA members are generously donating a percentage of their e-commerce sales to the association to mark Earth Day. Vaude will be donating 10% of its sales on 22 April to a specific project being supported by EOCA. KEEN is donating €10 for every pair of PFC-free shoes sold to a conservation project it is supporting through EOCA. EOCA’s newest Sustaining Member Stanley is generously donating 50% of its online sales from 20-24th April to support EOCA. Schöffel will kindly be donating 10% of their online store sales to EOCA on the 22nd April. As well as calling on people to get outside and take part in a National litter clean-up of forests in Poland, Lesovik will be donating 10% of its website sales to EOCA from 18-24th April, and Smartwool has committed to donate 10% of its e-commerce sales to EOCA from 18-25th April. Black Diamond will ask its community to join it in actions to support EOCA and also the ‘Minimize Your Impact’ movement, aimed at acting responsibly in the great outdoors. Cumulus will be donating 10% of its online sales over the whole weekend of 22-24th April, and offering free shipping to customers.

To raise further funds, EOCA will also work with its partner Outdoor Gear For Good (OGFG). OGFG is a community interest (non profit) company set up to collect donations of outdoor inventory, and to sell them with all profits going to EOCA. BUFF®, Lowe Alpine, Osprey, and Nikwax are amongst those brands that have donated generously in this way. A range of products are now available from the OGFG website, its UK eBay store, and will also be available direct from OGFG’s new premises in Kendal on 22nd April!

A third way in which members are supporting EOCA is through making donations to mark Earth Day. Leadership and Sustainability has made a generous donation to EOCA to mark Earth Day 2022, which has been gratefully received.

Catherine Savidge, Joint General Manager of EOCA said, “To mark Earth Day 2022, EOCA is reminding people of the importance of looking after environments local to them and worldwide. As well as calling on everyone to get involved in clean-up activities as part of the Great Global Clean-Up, EOCA is very grateful to its members who are enabling outdoor enthusiasts looking for new gear for their adventures, to be able to do so while also making a difference. Real investment is needed to protect fragile habitats around the world. This fundraiser enables participating companies and individuals to do that. Funds will enable EOCA to support and invest in vital conservation projects around the world, including those being selected right now through the EOCA online spring vote running 20 April – 4 May”

Both the Breathe Foundation and the Atlantic Rainforest Institute would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank EOCA for its support of this project, and its ongoing support of projects like ours across the wide spectrum that it engages in.  Without the commitment and funding from the European outdoor industry ...to assist established or start-up initiatives, many would never make it off the ground... and this [particular]  project and its roll out may never have been possible.
